VIDEO: Smoking Gun and the DEA Agent

Almost two years ago, we heard about the D.E.A. agent who was giving a gun safety lecture to a youth group in Florida. . . and accidentally CAPPED HIMSELF in the leg!!! And then, last March, the VIDEO of him doing it hit the Internet.

--Well, now it's 2006. . . and the guy has decided to SUE. Not us, for spreading around his tale of woe with such pure bliss. . . no, he's suing the GOVERNMENT, for letting the tape get out.

--The agent is 45-year-old Lee Paige of Orange County, Florida. . . (--his name was never released before). . . and he's filed a federal lawsuit accusing the D.E.A. of, quote, "improperly, illegally, willfully and / or intentionally" letting the tape get out. His lawsuit claims that a Google search for "D.E.A. Agent Shoots Himself" gets 347,000 matches. . . and says the tape was broadcast on "Jimmy Kimmel Live", "CNN News" and "A Current Affair".

--Lee also says that since the tape was released, he's been the, quote, "target of jokes, derision, ridicule and disparaging comments" at, quote, "restaurants, grocery stores and airports. White supremacy organizations have used the tape to ridicule black Americans and [Lee] in particular." (???) (--Obviously Lee, for those of you who never saw the tape, is black.)

--Because of the tape, Lee hasn't been able to give any more gun safety lectures. . . and he can't work undercover anymore, either. . . so he's having trouble making money, too. The amount he's suing for hasn't been released. (The Smoking Gun)

If embarassment was his concern then he wouldn't have filed this lawsuit. This coverage just throws gasoline on what was a smoldering issue of public notariety.

This guy is lucky to be working at all. He should have been treated just like anyone else who discharges a weopon in a school. He should have been charged under applicable criminal statutes, and at minimum should have become deskbound at the ATF.

He no doubt violated state laws by his action, but also all rules of common sense and gun handling. Anyone foolish enough to believe the weopon they are holding is unloaded should still be kind enough not to point it at anyone. The audience was visiably nervous when he pulled out the next weopon, and quite rightly so.

First of all, what the hell was he doing with a loaded gun in a classroom full of youngsters. If I was one of the parents I would sue his ass.

Just saw the Lee Paige video for the first time. This guy is so COOL-he took the shock like a pro and used his mistake to strengthen his message. I bet he saved the life of at least one kid in that class. Paige is a hero, not a joke.
American Media, American audience's savage thirst for low-brow humor, and a growing national desensitizing to violence- those are the real jokes here.

"This guy is so cool"

I bet you'd singing a different tune if one of your kids were in that classroom! On second thought lets hope you don't practice pro-creation.
